Gum Disease and Impotence

Gum disease is thought to partly cause some diseases. Firstly, doctors are saying gum disease can increase risk of heart disease by two to three times. Secondly, doctors are also saying that gum disease can increase risk of Alzheimer’s disease.

Now, in a new twist, doctors are saying that GUM DISEASE may also cause ERECTILE DYSFUNCTION.

Erectile dysfunction (ED), commonly known as impotence, can happen because of several reasons: injury to spine, diabetes, stress, and because of diseases of blood vessels (known as cardiovascular disease, or CVD). And diseases of blood vessels (CVD) is the most common cause of erectile dysfunction, to the point where some doctors even are saying that anyone with erectile dysfunction without any heart symptoms like pain is a patient with the cardiovascular disease until proven otherwise. Almost sounds like guilty until proven otherwise!

And what has gum disease got to do with erectile dysfunction? It is because gum disease can increase the risk of heart and blood vessel disease (CVD) which in turn can cause erectile dysfunction.

Researchers have found that those with gum disease are more likely to suffer from erectile dysfunction, and patients who had deep gum clean subsequently had their conditions improved.

It looks like it is very important to maintain gum health to reduce chance of heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, and now impotence!
